A Tri Club like ours depends on the generosity, skills, passion, dedication and commitment of volunteers and athletes.  In making it as far as we have, there are some special people who have been formally recognised for the commitment to Auckland City Tri Club.

Bruce Chambers ONZM
Bruce Chambers ONZM

Bruce is a founding member of the Auckland City Triathlon Club, and has also contributed his time and skills as the Honorary Auditor.

Bruce is a life member of Triathlon New Zealand, and has contributed much time to furthering the careers of budding triathletes.
He was a technical official at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, and the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.


Darragh Walshe
Darragh Walshe

Darragh has been a dedicated member of the ACT team since the founding of the club, serving on the committee for over 10 years.  A dedicated age group athlete, Darragh has given his commercial experience and insight…and hard work to ensure we have a well structured and stable club.

Tony O'Hagan
Tony O'Hagan

A passionate athlete, Tony achieved to the highest level within the sport and he was one of the club’s most successful nationally ranked triathletes. He was a multiple New Zealand Elite Champion in long distance triathlon and achieved podium places twice at the New Zealand Ironman. He was a coach and mentor to both adults and juniors and a great supporter of our club over many years. 

ACT and the wider triathlon community were greatly saddened by the sudden, tragic loss of Tony in June 2020. His enthusiasm and cheeky smile will be greatly missed by all.

Cameron Brown
Cameron Brown

Cameron has been a dedicated ACT club member for many years and has flown the flag for the club on the world stage. Cameron has achieved 4 podium finishes at the Ironman World Championships in Kona and a phenomenal 12 New Zealand Ironman wins. (of a total of 18 podiums).

Cameron was also New Zealand Sportsman of the year in 2001

Rick Wells
Rick Wells

Former swimmer Rick Wells was a pioneer in the sport of Triathlon.  Rick won the unofficial world short- and long-course titles in 1987 (before the sport was formally incorporated).  Following this he came third at the first official world championships in Avignon, France, in 1989, and second in 1991. Rick continued to dominate is all forms of the sport through the nineties.

Following retirement, Rick has been a significant influence in the rise of numerous young athletes (including Cameron Brown) and contribute to the sport through Triathlon NZ.  Rick continues to coach athletes from all walks of life in Swimming (with plenty of Triathlon advice along the way).

Hamish Carter
Hamish Carter

Gold Medallist for triathlon at the 2004 Athens Olympics, Hamish needs no introduction. As well as winning the premium prize in the sport, Hamish also achieved 3 ITU World Championship podiums (along with 9 top 10 finishes) as well as being crowned World Xterra Champion in 2006.  Hamish continues to contribute to the sport of triathlon and is always happy to offer his time to the club

Nic Sproule

Nic Sproule

Nic Sproule works tirelessly behind the scenes of the ACT Club managing club memberships, and communicating with members. She is also the organiser of the annual ACT Club Duathon at Pukekohe and helps co-ordinate club social events. Nic is a fantastic role model for age groupers competing successfully across all the distances throughout the world and always happy to support new members and beginners on their triathlon journey. Nic was made an Honorary Life Member in 2019.

Garth Barfoot

Garth Barfoot

Garth has been a valued member of the triathlon community for over 30 years. Along with Barfoot & Thompson, he has sponsored numerous triathlon events which has, without a doubt, kept the sport going in Auckland. For this the whole triathlon community is very grateful. Garth has also been instrumental in enabling ACT to develop the junior programme. He is a member of North Harbour Triathlon Club, but he isn't biased!! He is always more than willing to share his stories and advice with triathletes young and old. Garth was made an Honorary Life Member in 2021.

Lynley Twyman

Lynley Twyman

Lynley has been a valued member of the triathlon community and for ACTC for many years supporting both however she can. Lynley is best know for leading the delivery of the ACTC Duathlon each year through her company Frankly Done. Lynley was made an Honorary Life Member in 2023.
