Liam Bird is a recently turned professional long-distance triathlete with years of experience coaching young athletes in the sport. In 2024, Liam began coaching at Saint Kentigern College. Liam has a strong racing background, including 1st place in the 2023 Age Group 70.3 Sunshine Coast and 3rd in the 2024 edition, and is set to race his first professional full Ironman in Cairns this year. Passionate about helping junior athletes develop and thrive, Liam is excited to share his experience and support the next generation of New Zealand triathletes.
Walter Thorburn
Walter is passionate about helping put people of (all levels) and ability's closer to their goals every day while keeping the FUN-damentals in place for sustainable fitness. Keeping it enjoyable.
He is a 2 x New Zealand long course elite triathlon champion and World age-group champion. He held the prestigious NZ Port of Tauranga Half Ironman 2k swim/90 k bike/21K course record of 3 hrs 48 minutes for over 11 years.
Along with this he has coached and guided triathletes to New Zealand and world age group titles since 2001. He also holds the Level 3 Coaching certificate, which is New Zealand’s highest pinnacle of TriNZ's accreditation pathway for coaching.
Merle Maud
Triathlon coach and EndureIQ resident swim expert and a Swim Smooth Certified Coach. Merle coaches athletes racing both full and 70.3 Ironman from novice to world championship qualification. With years of coaching and racing experience, Merle applies both practical experience and continued education to optimise performance.
Cameron Brown
Cameron offers Over 40 years of triathlon experience starting as a age grouper back in 1987 and over thirty years as a professional athlete. Cameron has a passion and love for the sport that he now wants to give back to the athletes.
Cameron coaches with knowledge and experience that he's gained over those years in the sport.
Cameron has coached age group athletes and professionals and plans athletes training around there other commitments in life such as work and family.

Kathleen Munson
Kathleen came to triathlon later in life, after 15 years as a marathon runner, and has since completed multiple Ironman and 70.3 races around the world.
She brings that experience to other athletes, especially beginners, helping them build confidence and find real joy in the sport. Her coaching is approachable, practical, and focused on the foundational skills and sustainable routines that hold up over the long term.
Kathleen coaches athletes of all backgrounds, and for her female athletes, she integrates women's health considerations directly into her coaching so training works with your body, not against it, creating an environment where they feel supported and empowered to push.
She is a TriNZ Accredited Coach.
Sophie Spencer
Junior Development Training Sessions Coach - Sophie competed in triathlon from 11 years old until the end of 2023. She is now coaching triathlon and cycling at her old high school, Saint Kentigern College. Having spent a large chunk of her life training and racing in triathlon including racing overseas multiple times Sophie has so much knowledge to pass to the next generation of triathletes!
