ACT Junior Programme
The Club Coach, Tony O'Hagan, oversees Junior coaching at ACT
The ACT Junior Programme is administered by Alison Feeney.
We would like to thank Garth Barfoot (pictured on right) for his generous support of the ACT Junior Programme. Even in his eighties Garth is still competing all over the world and he is a fantastic role model for the juniors!
ACT Junior Club Training
The ACT junior programme provides regular training for its junior members, aimed at developing new skills, improving fitness and facilitating junior development.
From 16th October 2019- 12th February 2020, there will be regular training sessions at the weekends or on a Wednesday night during the holidays. There will either be a coach-led specific training session or an informal, parent-led training session (eg. Sunday rides). Check ACT junior emails and ACT Facebook page for upcoming session details, equipment to bring and for any changes in plans due to weather.
To attend these sessions please register with Alison Feeney, there will be a small charge for some of the sessions.
Sunday group rides (approx. 2 hours long) usually depart at 7:30am from Auckland Sailing Club. These rides are only suitable for athletes aged 14 and above and parents will be rostered on to support these rides. Check ACT Facebook on the day for cancellations. Riders will be required to have a minimum skill level to attend these group rides. The club will be holding regular learn-to-ride and licence-to-ride sessions
Other Training Options
Juniors are also welcome to attend Club coach’s (Tony O’Hagan) run session in the Domain at 5:30pm on Mondays (meet at Grandstand), Tuesday spin classes (6:30pm start at the sailing club) and his Saturday brick session (swim/bike/run) run at Diocesan school. There is a $5 charge for the run and spin sessions and $10 for the brick session (discounted for juniors). Contact Tony.
ACT is affiliated with Athletics New Zealand and encourages all members to participate in the Auckland Winter Cross Country Series over the off season. Athletes are also encouraged to get involved in school cycling. If your school does not have a team we can put you in touch with composite teams.
